Ooof.  I can't imagine what that costs these days.  Glad the Bad Pig is fixed and ready to tote a new bed full of Hooves!

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Trout Fishing the Bay (8/19)
Last post by Latimeria - August 20, 2025, 09:29:00 AM
My buddy Andrew had his trip out west cut short and had one last chance to get out fishing before taking the flight home.  I suggested soaking baits for sharks since my shoulder was an absolute mess, but he wanted to look for corvina in the bay instead.  We arrived at the bay and he had a mag darter tied up and I said I have some extra topwater if he wanted one.

After casting a few dozen times, I was followed on a dozen casts and blown up on 4 times!  I finally hook one and get it to the shore, but as Sasquatch knows this spot, getting off the ledge to grab them is sketchy at best and he shook off as I was trying to get him.

Finally, Andrew gave in and said to give him a topwater since he didn't even get a bump. Well, it didn't take long and he was stoked with the outcome!  I jumped in the water with the lip gripper to make sure he was able to get a picture with it.  24" corvina!

We finally had to move because the mosquitoes were crazy! I swear I've never seen so many down here and they were BIG!  Even Andrew was like "Let's go somewhere there isn't friggin skeeters!"

We move around the bay and realized the north side was dead.  It had mullet and bait, but no clear signs of vina.  We went back on the south side and fish were everywhere.  The problem was there was too much bait in the water, so it was hard catching them since there was so much.

We had dozens of blow ups and a few sportmen's releases as they did corvina things and rolled/splashed their way to freedom.

I finally got one to cooperate and slide up.

It started getting late and he had to drop off the rental at 4:00 am so we decided to give it 5 more minutes.  Well, after missing this guy on 3 casts in a row, Andrew finally got him to stick!

What a fun evening of casting even though my shoulder is hating me right now.  In any case, it was a total success and he had a great trip out here.

That's it.  I may have to get back out on another hunt to redeem all of the misses I had.  One thing was for certain, they loved the high tides!

Thanks for reading!

Time for a little Surgery for my truck, only 109k miles but the joints are worn and need replacing ::)
Took it to a Front End Shop and got the estimate to bring it back up to snuff and being a 4wd just added to the chaos but it needs to be done in order to keep towing The Cyclops :) Complete front end rebuild happens this Friday, but first I need 6 new tires (Dually) so by Monday and 9 Thousand Bucks later, Bad Pig will be road worthy for many more years to come 8)

Steve, I try to tell people that and they give me a weird look.  I'm glad you know what the deal is out there!  Even Andrew was like "This is a really slow day?".   ;D

Quote from: jrodda on August 19, 2025, 04:28:32 PMAbsolutely slayed! Yellow was icing on the cake to an already stellar day.

I felt like this day was an "Exploratory mission" since I've literally stayed away from LJ for a long time now.  It's either been dead, too many sea lions, or too many boaters.  I'm glad it all turned out the way it did.

The Mid Westerners are still out in force.  Their spuds must not go back to school until after Labor Day.

Anything is better than a skunk, even a little poich.  ;D

It's funny, I've been throwing hard baits the last few times out in the surf for very little and would have been much more successful if I started with the C-Rig.  I too was hoping for some more Stripers from the beach.  I have 2 off the beach in TP, but that was like 20 years ago.

Well done boss and thanks for the report.  They are hard to find here these days.

1715-1940

Covered a good chunk of ground. About 2.25 miles of walking by the looks of it.

Stray kelp and grass on the inside, too much for trebles but not a day ruiner on the c-rig.

Lasered a 1oz slider straight into a 10-15mph wind the whole time, [small] washing machine conditions.

Pumpkinseed grub got bit best, consistently but short.

Some micro bait popping here and there, but the chasers didn't take to the pearl perch grub (if there were any chasers at all).

2 long distance releases (in the wash) and then one to hand on the last cast. I'm enjoying this poich pic much more than most.

I've had a waterproof case for my phone that has a camera lens cover that's been dulling all my pictures by just a bit for the last couple years. I went mad and drilled out the lens cover from the case this past weekend and I'm so glad I did, mad I didn't sooner.

Here's another pic that's not dull!

Ah how the other half lives.

I also tried a 40 minute striper session yesterday as well which was unremarkable. On a little kick right now.
