This is only my second session on the sand since my knee replacement, I lasted almost an hour and a half before my leg got tired.  In addition to this one, I managed two mid teen shorts.  All in all it was a great session, and as always it was released.

'T' brought this one home today, third one this month

Took my dad to the pier this morning, it's only the second trip since my surgery.  If you want to count a bat ray, we hung two.  Measured a tad over 21 1/2", safely released.  Broke the bat off as soon as I put eyes on it

'T' sent me this picture about an hour ago, guess we're having halibut for dinner.  This is her first harvest, taped a tad over 24"

Saltwater Boat Fishing Reports / Red Tide???
May 20, 2024, 05:04:16 PM
Took the boat out for the first time since my surgery, wanted to see if I could get in and out of it.  Fished in MDR, stayed in the harbor.  The water was the color of maple syrup with a reddish tint.  I'm guessing it's the red tide, just not sure.  Had several solid bites but didn't put a single fish in the boat.  I guess what I'm asking is this what they call red tide?

Fishing Accessories / Steering cable
April 07, 2024, 03:46:37 PM
Put the boat in this morning around 6:00, back on the trailer by 6:15.  The steering cable is way to stiff, so gonna do something.  Not sure if I'm going to replace the cable (involves removing motor) or installing hydraulic steering.  Any thoughts and or experience?  Thanks in advance, Verne

Went to MDR this morning, we took my dad. Sardines were really healthy, only had two go belly up in the live well. Dad caught two bass and Theresa caught one bass and a halibut that was a tad over 26".  We released this one, but we're leaning toward buying a kill bag and start harvesting halibut.  I got skunked

Took the boat out Sunday, MDR bait was cured and strong.  We caught several more but I thought I'd post a pic of two of them.  Looks like they're done dredging, hopefully the halibut bite will pick up.  Always good to see my dad smile

General Board / Got a date
February 09, 2024, 03:14:48 AM
Kaiser finally called yesterday and I got a date for my knee replacement.  They said after 3 months they'll do the other one.  The date is cosmic, April 9th.  That is Little Bit's (granddaughter) birth/death day, gotta believe it's a sign.  Something about using a walker for a couple weeks seems really humbling, going to make sure no one has a camera in the house   🤣

Took my dad to the pier this morning, I only hung one but it was the right kind.  Quick picture then released, measured a fraction shy of 23"

Saltwater Boat Fishing Reports / Sh!t's getting old
October 16, 2023, 04:51:34 AM
Theresa has caught a 18, 21, 24, 28 and a over 30" camera shy halibut in the last couple weeks.  Me you ask?  Not a bump, either from boat or beach.

This was yesterday, 21".  We made the trip to fish the port

Theresa caught this the other day, looked really thick.  Using live sardines, released safely

Fishing Talk / Slow Learner

The last several times we went our bait is dying or dead in a hour.  Today for the first time I noticed a valve on the inlet for the tank, it was almost closed.  Opened it up a turn or two and PRESTO, much water.  Our bait this morning lasted the full five hours we fished, and swam away when we emptied the tank. BTW, we got skunked   ;D

Saltwater Boat Fishing Reports / Another good morning
August 03, 2023, 01:53:24 PM
Went back to MDR and once again got a load of anchovies, healthy ones at that.  Not the numbers we caught the other day, but still some nice fish.  All in all we caught maybe 20 fish before it was time to get my dad off the boat.  Here are the two standouts, thanks for reading.  As always, fish were released

Saltwater Boat Fishing Reports / Super good day
August 01, 2023, 11:59:37 AM
T and I took my dad to MDR this morning, the receiver had anchovies.  Today I could have used one of those clickers like Tom has, not sure how many we caught.  Over 25 calicos up to 19", 4 sandies up to 18" and 3 WSB up to mid 20's.  Didn't measure the WSB, wanted to get them back in the water.  My dad caught all 3 of them, he was on cloud nine.

Tell me he ain't having fun

General Board / Starting to worry
July 31, 2023, 05:17:41 PM
Taking the new boat out, you know I'm a little gun shy.  The volt meter on the dash which is brand new said 12v at 2500 rpm.  Being a old school mechanic, I'm used to 13.7 to 14.2 for a healthy charging system.  This morning I put the ears on the engine and a volt meter on the regulator, wanted to make sure the dash gauge was accurate.  From there I put it on the battery posts, measured 12.9 climbing to 13.4v, felt much better.  Must be some resistance between the batt and the dash gauges.  Feel comfortable enough to take it out tomorrow, just have to believe there is a 2v difference between what the system is doing and what the gauge says.  Hopefully we catch some fish   8)

First fish on the 'Little Bit', we also caught a 21" halibut and missed several solid bites.  Dad's getting tired, thinking it's the last time I wake him up at 4:30.  He's sleeping at his computer.  It hurts my heart to see him this way, if not for Theresa  taking him on the boat couldn't happen. He had to crawl on his hands and knees to get out at the ramp (he'll be 98 in six weeks) I named the boat after my late granddaughter, fish in peace baby girl.  On a bright side EVERY THING works perfect.  Bait tank, FF, VHF and the engine ran perfect

General Board / Made the leap

After thinking about it for quite while, I pulled the pin.  I'm the new owner of a 2007 17' Triumph Center Console.  It has a 2019 60hp Merc and seems to run great.  I hope I don't regret this   8)
