Wow, it was a long ride last night, but worth it. Steve and I met up at 7pm to try a little shark fishing. Steve had a surprise and brought wood and a fire ring! Thankfully, he also brought a hand truck as that was a walk from hell from all the gear we were just carrying! Still way too much even with a hand truck, but it was undoable without it.
We set up and Steve started the fire at dark. I must say, that it was pretty sweet having warmth on such a cool evening.

The bait stealers were out in full force. Every single cast was getting bit by something, but it couldn't take down our baits. This went on for hours, but thankfully the fire kept us warm and we didn't realize all of the time that was passing.
Steve finally snags one of the bait stealers and it winds up being a lobster.

We didn't look at the time, but our inner clocks were telling us that we were done. I had one bait left that was cut and ready to go. All night I was using the bell/LED indicator as I could not move fast enough to get to my rod, so I needed all the advanced warning as possible.
Well, I hear a jingle and see my rod bounce. I pull the bells and all of a sudden the rod loads up! It felt like and ran like a soupfin! It was grey hounding across the surface and pretty much jumping like a hot Soupie! Running right, Running Left... I would have bet my rod on it....
Thankfully I didn't because it was the most fired up Sevengill Shark I have ever caught! It was a male and it's claspers were just oozing, so the testosterone levels were through the roof! Steve had a bitch of a time trying to beach this thing. It never let up once!
77" of angry male Sevengill!

Steve took a dozen pictures, but because of all of the moisture in the air, only one really turned out. I need to get a camera that takes better pics in the dark.
Just then we decided to cast out again. Steve looks at the clock and says, "Holy Crap, it's 1:00am". Having that fire made time melt away and Steve mentioned he planned on fishing Sunday Morning, but didn't expect it to be the first hour of Sunday morning! lol
We fished until 1:30 or 1:45 am and called it quits with only some more bait stealers being around. That was one saving catch at the final minutes of the surf session, but it has been a while and I was pumped.
-Until next tide!
Awesome you finally got put to the test! The bar is set, we know you can land a big 1, how was your back throughout the fight? Were you using large baits like last time, or smaller?
cool to see Steve washing machine Skelton worked great lol
So awesome ... welcome back boss!
Sweet!
I know you needed one of those Tom, glad you got one.
The fire ring is a great idea, is that thing home made?

Nice 7 gill!!! Did you get in on your "short" rig?
LOL, nope. I used my short rig and it cast surprisingly well, but it got hung up on a sunken boat or something and lost that rig. I got the Sevengill on a long leader.
Last minute bites are always exciting! nice sevengill!
Nice one..Tom. Hope the back is not feeling it today. ???
Congratulations on the returning catch. Now all doubts can be cast aside. Next, the 100" + Sevengill.

My best is 102". But now I have Brendon's and Ray's big ones to beat. They got me by 8 and 6.5 inches respectively. I'm setting my sights high! Lol
Looks like the good ole days...wash tub fire warms my inner redneck 😎 nice fish!
It was worth the effort to drag that fire ring and wood along. Cant believe you hit the sheets st 230.
Now that you got a decent fish I can stop holding back.
That guy was amped up for sure.
Nice catch Tom! Time sure does fly when your having fun.
Back at it boss!
Great to hear you're "back" at it Tom............... 8)
