Hit Ventura harbor for a solo session last night. Tried soaking macs in a new spot. Put my first bait out around 5:30 and fish lures on the light rod. About 6:15 the bait clicker starts screaming for about 3 seconds then stops. Only bite on the long rod all night. :-\.
At least I was able to pick up a few small croaker on the light rod.
Saw lots of baitfish breaking the surface and threw every lure I had but no luck there either.
This report is the same as the last few times I've been out. Figured it was time to post up.
I'll score a big one eventually, just putting in the time. 8)
Putting time on the shore is the only way to make it happen.
Trying new spots is good.

Yep, you can't catch them sitting from your couch! You are putting the time in and those who usually do that get rewarded.
Skunk or not, it sounds like you are in a fishy area with all of that life around. Just think, you could be like Squatch and go 50 trips in a row without a Bat Ray! :o ;D
Worse for worse. ..the solitude late at night on the water is always a rewarding feel
I don't know, I've landed about 30 nice sevengills since I haven't been fishing. They're all 10ft plus, and it's in my dreams lol ::). The harbor is either on or off there, sometimes you put in 7 hours just for a lost pickup on what is most likely a mid sized ray. I suggest 5th street in Oxnard as well, always big surf bats, surf tractors, and sometimes some decent leopards. Nice you got out!
