Its been a year since I've fished Malibu. This particular stretch was one I used to meet Verne on, so he was on my thoughts in a good way. I went with my middle son. 72deg air, 65deg water, no salad, ankle high, incoming tide approaching sunset. Perfect, right? Someone forgot to notify the fish. We caught 2 perch in 2 hours. But hey, I was fishing with my kid.

I always found the fish in Malibu to be too late to the party as well. Really nice conditions though, good quality time spent.
I'm out of fishing shape! Casting shoulder is sore this morning. We threw paddle tails on the way down and LC on the way back. Might try another spot tomorrow.
Do you still have to squeeze through a fence to get on that beach or is there access now? It's been 20 years since I've fished it.
Thanks for the report boss. The silver lining in the trip is more than worth it.
All the beaches have access now. A few years back the city of malibu took down all the fences, even on the secluded beaches like Carbon. My wife's boss lived on the sand there and he flipped out big time when they made that move. He went from "look at my private paradise" to having families picnic in the shade of his deck. First world problems.
On a positive note, the little 2" paddle tail baits from 805 Customs work well on a c-rig. I was skeptical since I don't c-rig much anymore but the only two fish we caught were both on those.
