: Trout Fishing the Bay (8/19)

My buddy Andrew had his trip out west cut short and had one last chance to get out fishing before taking the flight home.  I suggested soaking baits for sharks since my shoulder was an absolute mess, but he wanted to look for corvina in the bay instead.  We arrived at the bay and he had a mag darter tied up and I said I have some extra topwater if he wanted one.

After casting a few dozen times, I was followed on a dozen casts and blown up on 4 times!  I finally hook one and get it to the shore, but as Sasquatch knows this spot, getting off the ledge to grab them is sketchy at best and he shook off as I was trying to get him.

Finally, Andrew gave in and said to give him a topwater since he didn't even get a bump. Well, it didn't take long and he was stoked with the outcome!  I jumped in the water with the lip gripper to make sure he was able to get a picture with it.  24" corvina!

We finally had to move because the mosquitoes were crazy! I swear I've never seen so many down here and they were BIG!  Even Andrew was like "Let's go somewhere there isn't friggin skeeters!"

We move around the bay and realized the north side was dead.  It had mullet and bait, but no clear signs of vina.  We went back on the south side and fish were everywhere.  The problem was there was too much bait in the water, so it was hard catching them since there was so much.

We had dozens of blow ups and a few sportmen's releases as they did corvina things and rolled/splashed their way to freedom.

I finally got one to cooperate and slide up.

It started getting late and he had to drop off the rental at 4:00 am so we decided to give it 5 more minutes.  Well, after missing this guy on 3 casts in a row, Andrew finally got him to stick!

What a fun evening of casting even though my shoulder is hating me right now.  In any case, it was a total success and he had a great trip out here.

That's it.  I may have to get back out on another hunt to redeem all of the misses I had.  One thing was for certain, they loved the high tides!

Thanks for reading!

Look for a big incoming evening tide date and let me know. I'll try my best to get you on the top water bite.
