I was thinking about doing a Grinner Gathering this fall, but more of "Bat Fight" style of competition. Each species of shark will hold a specific point value that will be awarded for the biggest of each and the county with the most points at the end wins bragging rights. Any thoughts or interest in this?
Yes. Interested. On call with work so a coin toss if I can make it, but all that including the point system sounds fun to me. Something like...?
7gill, soup 5pts each
leo 3
smooth dog 1
no rays or skates
but thornback -1
Whoever wins gets to pick Tom's pick 'em chart that week.
Hopefully the Grinners get the memo and show up, sounds like a good time anyway ;)

Are you on call with the deck hand gig?

Yeah, they tend to call a few days out or the night before a trip. I don't know what late October/November will bring, if the tuna start biting in day trip range, or things slow down. Dana Pride is in the ship yard this month which is my main boat and I'm getting some relief work on other boats for now. 140 mahi on a 3/4 with the Sum Fun yesterday....
I'm in.
I would also like to see area based tournaments. Such as SD county, LA etc that anglers can only fish those counties for the tournament and limit what we can target based on what's actually in the surf in that area at that time.
And/or species tournaments not restricted to anglers home county.
