: Attic Ladder and Flooring
: Latimeria January 17, 2022, 11:26:35 p
The last few years, I've almost had the ladder fall out under me while putting the X-mas stuff back in the attic.  Besides that, I had only a couple of small pieces of old particle board trying to make a floor in the attic that I had to balance all of the bins on.  I've wanted to put a floor in and install some attic stairs for at least a decade now, but finally decided to do it.  I called in a few places, and it was seriously like $5,000 to $10,000 to do so depending on the work I wanted done.  Replacing the insulation and ducts brought the price up to $17,000!!!!!  What a crock of sh!t!  They all are in cahoots since they all quoted me around the same price to do so.

Well, my buddy said he'd always help me install it, but I never took him up on the offer.  All of a sudden, he said "Get the attic ladder and all the stuff you want to do... We'll work on it this Saturday"... Well damn!  Okay!

Let's just say that Santee housing built in the 1970's is not square and nothing runs in straight lines.  We had to frame the ladder spot which looked c*ck-eyed from the attic, but I had to measure from below to make sure everything looked good from below.

Basically, what he thought would be a 3 hour job, turned into a 7 hour job since we had to problem solve the structure around us the entire time.  Keeping it straight was the hard part, but we called it the day after we got it installed and straight.

Once the frame was secured, the flooring went in which just created a ton of storage room!

I was going to wait and do the molding and gaps during the week, but the wife was not having that, so it had to be done this weekend.

I made a pull hook/Ring Eye to remove the cord, textured, painted, molded and just need to fill the gaps, but pretty happy with the outcome and I didn't drop a ton of money to do so!   8)

Keeping it straight was the hard part, but we called it the day after we got it installed and straight.  I would take care of the moulding and gaps yesterday.

Now that it is installed, I hope I never have to install one again.  LOL

Nice work!

They built adobe houses more square than anything in San Diego that has an address. Newer builds are even worse!

Whenever I want to get out of something the excuse is a bad case of hemorrhoids.

No one ever checks to see if my excuse is real.
