: Annual Sherm Welcome
: Latimeria July 18, 2021, 06:50:10 p
I think it's been probably at least a decade that I've met Sherm coming back from his annual 7-day trip to the Alijos Rocks.  Actually last year was a wash because of Covid, but they always come back loaded with yellows at least.

The boat got to the dock at 5:00 am and I walked around waiting for everyone to disembark the ship.  I used to go down and help offload, but that's been a big "No-No" the last 4 years and the crew would tell me to get off the dock and just wait.

There's a lot of sh!t that needs to come off a 7-day trip.  It was light before you knew it.

After looking at the fish they brought up, it looked to be just a so-so trip.  Lots of big yellows, along with a dozen wahoo and BFT in the mix.  Saw some random Mahi and grouper also, but I would guess it was 90% yellows.

Watched them weigh for Jackpot...  Biggest yellow was 46 pounds, although after they are soaked in a salt brine, they sure don't look as big as the scale was saying.

I think the BFT were all from mid-40's to mid 50's.  Apparently they made a showing on the way home, but were picky biting small anchovy.

Almost all of the wahoo were in the 50 pound category also.

I was trying to shake off a hangover, but Sherm looked a little hopped up on something.  hahahahaha

Parking absolutely sucked balls down there, so I had to park a bit away.  I always try to come up with a better way of transporting the fish without having to have to drive in that cluster of a parking lot, so I came up with a neck sling with some huge circle hooks attached.  Worked okay, but I was slimed up by the time I got to the truck.  People sure got a kick out of my yellowtail necklace though.

Cleaned them up and took a nap trying to shake off the remnants of mixing booze and taking a half a gummy.  That wasn't too smart on my part, but it was a pretty fun night.  hahahaha

Thanks for reading.

Clever idea, I'd say maybe trash bags over them would have helped with slime but it wouldn't have been as fashionable.

When I saw your other report I thought your boat was fixed. Always nice when a buddy shares his catch with you, cool 8)  Looks like Sherm had the other 1/2 of the Gummy ;D ;D
