Pulled another all nighter from about 1:30-6am to fish the incoming. Conditions were great at the beach of choice; the wind, salad, high surf, and crazy southward rip current that I battled last week were nonexistent. Caught some fresh mackerel the day before for bait and fished a 3-way rig with a 9/0 circle hook. Clicker started screaming about half an hour in and it ended up being a nice 5.5' soupfin. I still need to get a tape measure but the sneakers I wear are exactly 12'' long and I measured it out via steps. Shortly afterwards I hooked something BIG that just took off and nearly spooled me before breaking off near the bottom of the spool. Burned a hole in my thumb and ended up taking almost all my line with him. My guess would be a monster bat ray given how there were no head shakes or anything. Fortunately I brought a spare spool of 40lb test so I respooled and cast back out. Ended up getting two more soupfins; one around 5.75' in length and the last one the same length as the first (5.5') but fatter. As the sun was coming up I hooked into a nice bat ray as well that took about half an hour to tow out of the undertow. I probably ought to invest in some waders as dragging the fish out to waist deep water to release them in jeans and sneakers gets pretty cold in the early hours of the morning. Great productive night to make up for my last few skunks!

A three soupfin night is incredible, I'm still waiting on my first. Many congrats my man, V
No waders?!! You are an animal Kam! Too bad I don't have an old pair, I'd hook you up. I do have a rod for you though! We'll fish soon!
Hardcore fishing right there or you just don't have any early morning obligations. ;) I think your report inspired Mike to do the same.
Damn, that is awesome and hardcore 8)
Amazing session. Wet, but worth it.
Well right on Kam! I'll definitely have to start updating the Shark List!
Bravo sir!
Thanks for the kind words! Wasn't able to get out for the rest of the week but hope to hit it hard again next week!
