Had dinner plans with the parents tonight and Steve had to run home to the roofers. Not sure what was going to happen tonight or even if I was going to fish.
Dinner was being made and I was talking shop with Pop, when I get a text from Steve... "Look out the balcony window, you have enough dinner to invite me?"
Unfortunately, my mom didn't prepare a Sasquatch serving sized meal, so he was going to have to go hungry. Then I realized that I couldn't live with myself if I heard him yell from the beach that he caught one and I was just sitting there watching.. Grrrr
Told mom to put my dinner on the plate and that I would heat it up when I was done.. I'm going fishing!
Met Steve and staked up to a killer sunset. It wasn't long before Steve gets a ripping hit and was on with something sharky! 5 minutes into the fight and his line breaks! Doh! Gone like a fart in the wind. Literally 20 seconds or less later, I get a SCREAMER and Hooked up! Definitely felt like a Soupfin and I did not let up as there was plenty of opportunity to lose it. 15 minutes later and Steve tail grabs this big fat preggo soupie!
JKust as Steve was dragging it up, I saw my hook pop out of the corner of its mouth and felt fortunate that I didn't let up on her. Just then I noticed a hook and leader sticking out of her lower jaw... low and behold, but it was Steve's rig from the one he just lost! It seriously broke off Steve and was hungry enough to suck down my bonito steak seconds later! Crazy how that happened!
We got a few good pics and got her back since she was loaded with babies. The sunset was great backdrop to the photo!

We didn't take any time to measure her, but it may have been my biggest to date! I've caught a bunch of beasts lately and it's hard to tell which one is really bigger!
I didn't have much time to fish since I was starving, but Steve and I fished a little while longer for nothing butbass. The bass were in so thick that within seconds of every cast, they were stealing our baits.

For not planning to fish, I'm glad Steve sent me that text! We are now even with stolen sharks as he caught my nice Sevengill that I lost last year.
Crazy and fun fishing with you Steve. Sorry that I didn't have a feed sack for you, but next time. ;D
Tight Lines everyone!
Way to go Tom!!!! Looks like the soups maybe be back on the radar!
Funny how things worked out.
Nice of you to show that beggar how to catch his own food! LMFAO!!! ;) I didn't know what you meant when you texted me "I made him pay big time"... now I see! Awesome soupie Tom definitely one of if not your biggest!
That's what I'm talking about!!
That is a nice catch, and Steve got his tackle back as a bonus 8)

I thanked him for holding the camera and he thanked me for retrieving his rig for him. lol
Nice Soupie! To go gilling today or not that is the question.
Going to the soup kitchen tonight in hopes of seeing some of those. Mac and Squid will be on the menu.
Definitely go sharking Sevengills! It's a good night as any!
I'd definitely use mack for bait more than squid. The squid will get bit more, but the mack will get you a better shot in my humble opinion. Good luck out there and get 'em!
Another vote for mack.
Are you guys chumming at all in the surf?

Are you guys chumming at all in the surf?
Only by way of repeatedly throwing baits out in the same area.

I am a firm believer in that also. 8)
Chumming in surf get's you unwanted atttention if you know what I mean. I went out tonight only managed a 56" five gill spot shark. Good enough for me recently, I'll post tomorrow. Still in awe of your Soupie Tom! I want one!

Looking forward to the leopard pic!
Yep, for the same reason you mentioned, chumming the surf is not kindly looked upon, especially by other people using the beach to swim and surf. ;D

Considering we are fishing the night shift do you think chumming is a bad thing?

Not a bad thing, certainly not illegal, but could be a waste of bait.
If your fishing the soup kitchen try tossing a hoop net in 6ft of water in front of the life guard tower.
I've always wanted to chum consistently in the surf, but seeing as I enjoy wading out there for better casting distance, I tend to feel uneasy if I'm chuckin handfuls of chum lol
all i want is the calicos,, lol, is that wrong? 8)

I tossed out a baitcage with bonito parts and tide a rope to the cage. The problem with that is tha surf keeps pushing the cage back to shore. I need to find a better way to keep the chum cage out in the deeper water.
I meant for lobsters ;D but now that I think about it , it might not be legal there.
