Not at all, that's a small bait and would get swallowed on the first pickup. That's why we started bridling, so the circle could connect properly and avoid gut hooking tigers.

Chris, what do you think about using a similar technique for the smaller sharks we're casting to from shore? Are the missed hookups and teeth marks below the hook we see because the bait was short bit or because not enough of the hook was exposed to properly set?
IMO, it's probably not enough hook clearance. That's exactly what brindling is designed to combat. Using circle hooks as I do, clearance is a big issue and I rig accordingly. I believe I have run a hookup percentage in the 90% + area. Most of the baits most of us use are small enough to just be inhaled by the shark. I believe most times, the teeth marks are caused by the bait being pulled out of the mouth over the teeth without the hook catching. One of these days I will post some pics of how I rig my baits.

It really depends on the size of the bait but most castable baits are fine with the 10/0 circles I use, unless it's a mondo Mack or bonito head that Tom likes to throw now and then. Those big head could benefit from a nose bridle exposing the hook and letting it twist or use a double hook rig.
As far as short bites, if your using light drag or flreespool a small leopard, shovel nose and skate will make the drag sound and give a decent hit and crush the bait or leave teeth marks. I've never had a bait come back that I suspected was a decent leopard or soupfin, usually they take the bait with them.
