It sounds sharky or she ripped across a wire leader from a busted off rig, but in any case I feel the blame game already starting. Too easy to blame the increasing shark populations and people in the water. I hope they don't start saying stupid things like "Fishermen are chumming them into the shallows, it's their fault!"
Oh well, but that means we need to get some baits out in the surf while they are in abundance! ;D
Did you see the pic of the wound? Definitely not a shark bite.

I didn't see it, but it didn't sound like something a 4-5 foot GW would do. :-\
YARRRGGG! I BE GETTIN AN ERROR 404!
Here is a story with the wound pic. Experts say a surfboard fin is more likely

I'm just going to stand in waist deep water with a gaff.
Time for you LA guys to step it up and get a grinner!
Yeah I don't feel that's a shark, no missing flesh, only a laceration...
Now she's making money off it >:(

Anyone want to wet a line?
There were 5 to 6 GWs right in the surf in Long Beach yesterday. They looked like they were castable distance as well!
15 yesterday in Dana point

Wonder if a warden would chase you off the beach given a high level of a protected species in the surf zone?

The ones I've ran into didn't mention anything and I've been hitting Oceanside to Dana point frequently. Some of them are pretty laid back just don't be stupid. They don't like media attention and support the right to hunt and fish as much as we do.
San Clemente ...

I think these numbers are making history, if they start a shark cull like they have in other places I'm gonna have a serious freak out

IMO it's nothing really new. I blame drones and social media for the new awareness of them but in reality they've been spotted by helicopters and from piers in reports dating to the 80's.
All these juvies around, I wonder when the moms came through and gave birth?

Great question Jim and there's only one way to find out. Calling out all you LA anglers, especially those with a lot of grinner gear, but don't use it...
Still there
