First time out with the new toy, and first drop went perfect. A little more right than I wanted, but over 300yds 8)
Second drop, everything was looking good, or so I thought, and then the toy drowned.
Apparently there's a couple of very small things that make a big difference between doing the happy dance and licking some expensive wounds. If you want to know what they are, PM me.
Oh well, that's fishing. I'll be back.
BTW - the one bait I did get out? I got some line pulled out. Not a full commitment, but there was definately line being pulled. Funny thing is the bite mark didn't look like anything I've ever seen before. The meat was shredded in what appeared to be a triangular pattern...
The girlfriend and I both felt really bad.
It was really cool seeing it fly over the horizon with that chunk of bait.

You don't say.... ::) must have been a mako
That sucks, Chip.
Seeing all the long rods out really gave me the bug, will be dusting off mine and winning the bat fight 8)
Gah! ... Chip ... really??? Sorry to hear. That sucks. :'(
I would have taken it for some test drives first, but a debt to Poseidon was paid.
Real Bummer Chip about the drone and lost opportunity. It sounds like it was a Tax Man, but without a visual on the baits, it's hard to tell. I think I heard a rumor that the drone crash was sabotage via an OC Double agent.
I was hoping to hear a victory story from the drone, but that really sucks.
I'm speechless Chip, super bummed for you...............
They caught a drone today at HB pier. Doesn't look like it's been in the water long though.
HB was the closest pier to where we were. After seeing the pic I'm sure that's chips drone.
It probably got wedged into one of the pilings.
Not my drone, no rigging for the release clip. Just another reminder that there are expensive consequences possible when you drone fish ;D
However, it doesn't look like this is going away. It seems like everyday there are more and more companies making fishing related drones and/or add-ons for existing drones. But, this is really still very new and experimental, not to mention a little bit pricey.
I've seen reliability issues with some of this stuff too. What appears to be really cool and works great suddenly develops problems when it's exposed to surf fishing for a little bit.
