I got out to a beach that I thought I would be safe for a few hours on before the rush hit. I was on the beach by 5am ready to fish when 2 surfers walked 200 yards down the beach in from of me and started surfing over my line... all in the dark!
I moved over a bit and got a small calico when wave after wave of surfer literally walked over to my rod and paddled out over my line. I moved 3 times away from a soul just to have this step repeated over and over again.
I was finally out of room and ready to pack it in when I managed a medium-ish leopard shark. I couldn't even enjoy the catch as the beacon was strong this morning and when people saw I got a leopard, they came bumbling over like sea gulls to a dumpster. I decided to call it quits and head for home. I changed my plan on the way home and swung by a beach that I have bot fished the long rod before and figured I would fish for an hour to test the waters. Soon as I get my stuff ready, I hear a honk and see a familiar tuck. Steve literally tracked me down with no intel, but I guess it isn't too hard when you fish with someone so often.
Anyways, the water had some chopped salad and tons of fur bags... I mean surfers out there first thing with no consideration. I think I will have to limit my long rod sessions to night fishing only.
Until next tide.
Planned to join you this morning but went back to sleep. By the time I got up time was too short to beat the dumpster seagulls. Figured I'd swing by to say hi.
Its funny you post this up while I'm writing up my post about the length I had to take to get away from the midday idiots
Long Roding is pretty impossible if there is any kind of surf or structure. They seem to go hand and hand. ;)
When I read the title of your post I thought you were fishing at Beacons. :D
Cast sinker bombs ;D
I'll be damned Tom, I thought I had the only idiot beacon around ;D
Still don't get it. I've fished empty beaches, with no one on a peak, and I'm the beacon for "hey let's surf right there'. I have snagged 3 surfers to my list of catches though.
I have literally had them on each side, paddle out, and snagged. Then they look at me like WTF???
My usual reply in a rather loud tone is "DUMB ASS"
